CVYN - A Fun Night for Youth

CVYN - Cowichan Valley Youth Night
This annual event for youth from all over the Cowichan Valley is an awesome opportunity for Kaleo students to grow in leadership and have a blast interacting with teens! In a normal year youth would come out to Camp Qwanoes where they would be hosted with music, lessons, games and fun!
This year, due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, our talented team managed to produce an online night for teens.

CVYN was a difficult group project for me. I often struggled to understand what was expected of me, and whether my role was actually needed at all. I was given the role of breakout room coordinator which meant I was responsible for choosing the rooms students would be in for the Zoom Break-out Sessions. I was able to apply my organizational skills and get 6 rooms set up with chairs, tables and laptops. I felt a little scrambled on the Friday because I had a last minute request to switch rooms. Last minute problem solving is not my gift, but I was able to make some really quick adjustments to make the whole thing smoother. I think my favourite part of the role was the chance I got to bless the people in charge of the breakout rooms.

This experience allowed me to realize that sometimes last minute shifts need to happen. Even though they are stressful the people it blessed were worth it. This shifting of priorities to care for the people around me instead of my perfect laid out plan is something I will take away with me into whatever responsibilities I take on.

Just for funzies I went out and watched them film for the game!
