Month One, An Introduction to Life and Leadership at Kaléo

A New Beginning
College is a big change in a person's life, but throughout it all God has shown me so much love and faithfulness. I'm the oldest in my family, and blessed with amazing parents and brothers, so it was hard to leave them all behind. My Mom has always been my support system, and it took a lot of courage for me to step into the airport alone. (Airport Security always beeps for me).
I took that tiny step, and left everything I had known behind. Ahead of me lay adventure, school, and the unknown. In the midst of a physical world, where nothing was sure, I was able to rely on the God who created the physical and spiritual world, to remain faithful and sure. I arrived at the Victoria Airport without incident, and met with the three other students who flew in that day. Due to a slight communication error we were afforded quite a bit of time to visit in the smoky air of Victoria before we were picked up and on our way to Camp Qwanoes to meet the rest of the team.
Orientation day was a bit of a blur of lines, papers and people, but by the time the week was up, I was blessed to have 25 fellow believers to call my friends.
The transition from dependance to independence, has been a major challenge for me during my time at Kaleo. It has been hard to transfer my reliance on my parents, to a reliance on God, and my own self in leadership. I've been given opportunities to rely on God when I am unsure of the expectations for class, a trip or assignment. Realizing that I cannot keep up with all I am expected to do on my own, and that it is God who works in me both to will and to work according to his good pleasure, (Phil 2:13) has been a struggle for me. I am continuing to rely on him for how he wants me to serve, which is the biggest challenge I have faced in my journey of leadership.
